Peony and Thistle celebrates its one year anniversary
Peony and Thistle is delighted to be reaching the end of its first successful year of trading. To celebrate its first anniversary, the Glasgow based business is launching a new range of stunning handmade notebooks. These colourful notebooks, showing Amsterdam’s distinctive canal houses, are designed and made by Phil Wong of Peony and Thistle. They are the perfect size for slipping into a bag or pocket and come in black and white as well as a range of striking colours, including coral, lilac, gold, pale blue and duck egg.
Alongside the new range of notebooks, Peony and Thistle sells wonderful vintage items for the home, unique handmade notebooks, recycled bunting and handmade upcycled envelopes via their online shops. It has a wide range of fabulous vintage and retro china tea sets, cake stands, glassware, linens, old maps and vintage books. It also has an extensive range of their existing popular handmade journals. These include notebooks with Dunoon Pier and Glasgow tenements as well as a quirky range of notebooks upcycled from game boards like Monopoly, Scrabble and Cluedo and from old annuals like Beano, Victor, Twinkle and Dandy. Old vinyl LPs, recycled leather and vintage books are also used to create unique journals.
Peony and Thistle was set up one year ago by Dorothy Gillies, a former Glasgow University law lecturer and lawyer at the European Commission and Scottish Executive. Dorothy decided to change her career and embrace her passion for vintage and her love of searching high and low for beautiful vintage items for the home. She loves to find new homes for gorgeous vintage items which are no longer wanted by their original owners but which will be treasured in their new ones. She also loves to recycle discarded items into notebooks, envelopes and bunting. Dorothy’s husband, Phil Wong, also makes notebooks for Peony and Thistle. Dorothy dragged Phil along to a bookbinding course a few years ago and he caught the bookmaking bug. Now he spends his free time making all sorts of new and wonderful notebooks. His free time is limited though as he is also an Executive Coach with his own Glasgow-based company, Authentic Change.
The Amsterdam notebooks are available online from Peony and Thistle’s shops on Etsy and Folksy, the online marketplaces for vintage and handmade.
